On today’s Apple event, the company detailed two initiatives to help protect users who may be personally targeted by sophisticated digital threats. The new features are designed to help people create custom warnings and interactive responses for specific situations, and to give people more control over their data in case of a data breach.
Apple today detailed two initiatives to help protect users who may be personally targeted by sophisticated digital threats.
The first is a new feature in its Safari web browser that will warn users if they are visiting a site that has been flagged as potentially dangerous. The second is a new tool in Apple’s upcoming iOS 10 software update that will allow users to create a “digital security profile” to help protect them from threats targeting their personal information.
One initiative, called
“Find My iPhone,” helps Apple users recover their devices if they’ve been lost or stolen. The second initiative, called “Apple File System 2,” encrypts data on Apple devices to help protect them from data breaches.
Apple today detailed two initiatives to help protect users who may be personally targeted by sophisticated digital threats.
The first initiative, called “Find My iPhone,” helps Apple users recover their devices if they’ve been lost or stolen. Using the Find My iPhone service, users can remotely lock and erase their device, create a personalized message to be displayed when the phone is found, and receive alerts when the device is close to being recovered or when it’s been remotely locked and erased.
The second initiative, called “Apple File System 2,” encrypts data on Apple devices to help protect them from data breaches. Apple File System 2 is enabled by default on new Macs starting with OS X Yosemite and iOS 9 and uses Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) with a key length of 256 bits. Data stored in Apple File System 2 is protected even if the device is lost or stolen and cannot be accessed by unauthorized third parties.
The second initiative is called
“Digital Forensics and Investigation”
Apple’s Digital Forensic and Investigation initiative will help protect users by providing tools and resources to help investigators locate, identify, and track down malicious apps and websites.
